FCL Summer School 2023 - Dense and Green Cities: Exploring New Models of Integrated Urban Development
Who is this summer school for?
The summer school is open to bachelor, master and doctoral students as well as researchers with a background in architecture, urban design, urban planning, and landscape design in ETH Zurich, FCL Global and the partner institutions of FCL Global, who are interested in exploring interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary knowledge and approaches of urban planning and urban design through ArcGIS Urban online platform.
What are the objectives of this summer school?
The summer school aims to introduce interdisciplinary knowledge regarding sustainable integrated urban development and transformation, provide real-world scenarios and solutions for Altstetten, Zurich and collaborate effectively with stakeholders from many disciplines. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to:
Obtain interdisciplinary knowledge regarding sustainable integrated urban development and transformation in urban planning, architecture design, social and environmental performance, and governance approaches;
Use ArcGIS Urban as a web-based tool to visualise urban planning and design in 2- and 3D and analyse results;
Provide real-world scenarios and solutions for Altstetten, Zurich;
Communicate and discuss effectively with stakeholders.
What are the programmes of this summer school?
Keynote lectures by Prof. Sacha Menz and Prof. Thomas Schroepfer;
City tour in Zurich and case study site visit;
Presentations on the work of Dense and Green Cities;
Training on ArcGIS Urban planning and design tools;
Seminars with collaborating stakeholders in Zurich;
Mid-term and final presentations.
