The CEA includes an engine for the calculation of hourly flows of energy between buildings, users and the environment. The product of this are hourly profiles of requirements per end-use of heating, cooling and electricity in buildings (i.e., lighting, appliances, servers, hot water, sensible and latent heating, sensible and latent cooling, and refrigeration). The CEA calculates average hourly power requirements, mass-flow rates and temperatures of supply and return for thermal services.
The engine of CEA is open-source and it is based in the simplified dynamic models described in the ISO and SIA standards (more info in here) and the simplified energy supply chain of the next figure. For more information on the use of the engine check our Tutorials
